Module 10 Psych Soc Strategy - Identity and Personality

  • Continuing with Identity and Personality

As we discussed in module 9, we have allocated two modules for completion of our Identity and Personality assignments. We also discussed the difficulty presented by the many influential theoretical approaches for describing development. Piaget, Vygotsky, Freud, Erikson, and Kohlberg all have different things to say. Although you can expect a question or two in the psychology-sociology section dealing with the ideas of any one of these important theorists, let us single out Piaget for special focus.

  • Piaget

For this exam, make sure you can designate the stages of cognitive development in Piaget. Be able to describe the attributes of each stage and the milestones separating them. Understand the use of the term "schema" in Piaget's psychology, and understand the dynamic of assimilation and accommodation. Piaget has been enormously influential both for psychology and also for the field of education. When Ms. Frizzle in Magic Schoolbus says, "Get messy! Make mistakes!" that's Piaget.
